This is a partial list of my family surnames which I’m researching and the connected families who were brave enough to marry us! I’m presenting the family names in alphabetical order… no favouritism involved.

My great-great-grandfather, James Diver, was born in 1824 in Kilmacrenan, Co. Donegal. Son of Samuel Diver and Elizabeth. James’ siblings: William, Alexander, Thomas, and Ann Diver, all born in Kilmacrenan. James Diver married Sarah Jane Cheatley in 1857 in Kilmacrenan. She was from Dromore, Co. Donegal, born in 1841. Any connection to your Diver family?

Hi Gail, the information that I can access quickly at the moment is: James Diver (father also James) married Martha McConnell in 1851. One of their sons, George William Diver; married my great grand aunt, Elizabeth Wilson. Elizabeth’s father Thomas was born in Burt, Donegal as was her mother Margaret Norry. George William and Elizabeth had several children. Their names were Thomas, George William (2 of them, one died young), James, Elizabeth, Mary Jane and Robert. We seem to have many of the same Christian names, which can sometimes be a clue. If you would like to check this out further, please email me at twistedlimbsandcrookedbranches@gmail.com. Thanks so much for getting in touch.

I have limited information on my family. We show in some sketchy family records coming from Donegal on the west side and possibly from County Down on the east side. Have you seen anything on Wachob or sometimes spelled Walkup or Wachope?

Hi Tom, it’s not a name I’ve come across before. However, I did a quick search in 1901 and 1911 census for all three spellings of the name. In 1901 I found nothing; in 1911 I found a David Walkup, a farmer; living in 4 Clare Upper, Co. Tyrone.
On the Griffiths Valuation Record (using the 3 spellings again) Information (1851) reveals the following:
Tenant
Family Name 1 WACHOB
Forename 1 ANDREW
Landlord
Family Name 2 CONYNGHAM
Forename 2 MARQUIS OF
Location
County DONEGAL
Barony RAPHOE, SOUTH
Union STRANORLAR
Parish DONAGHMORE
Townland TRUSK
Place Name TRUSK
Place Type TOWNLAND
Publication Details
Position on Page 17
Printing Date 1857
Act 15&16
Sheet Number 77,78,86,87
Map Reference 14
So, we’ve at least one reference to your name in Co. Donegal. If you would like me to look a little further; please send me an email at twistedlimbsandcrookedbranches@gmail.com.
Thanks for getting in touch.

Hello Colleen. In your list of twisted limbs & crooked branches, you mentioned Johnson & Morrison. Grasping at straws, I am looking for 2 people: One is Lawrence Johnson, dob July 27,1741 born in “England” somewhere & not sure emigrated to the United States, but before the “Boston tea party”.
He & his family later emigrated to Canada before 1800. He married & they had their children in the United States. The other is James J Morrison dob March 23,1815, supposedly in the Island of Jeresy. Apparently sailed to the United States by himself on June 14,1834, aboard the ship Edmond from Londonderry to Philadelphia. Somewhere along the way he came to Canada and stayed with an aunt Prudence Caldwell (who married a Richardson) and an uncle Leslie Monteray Caldwell. Anything look familiar?? Thank you for your time. Bill

Hi Bill, thank you for getting touch. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across any Morrison’s (yet) back to England. What is rather interesting is that I have a Thomas John Morrison – his second wife was named Elizabeth Caldwell. They are from the paternal side of my family and are from the Ballymoney, Co. Antrim area. They are distantly connected to my Murdoch/k’s of Ballymoney. Would you happen to have Murdoch/k’s surfacing any where in your tree? Colleen

Hi Colleen. Thanks for your reply. Have not tripped over any Murdoch/k’s as yet, but will check out your Morrison & Caldwell. Will keep in touch. Bill

They came to the U.S. in 1851 with their children, James, William, Thomas and Ann. The McKees also came over around the same time. Charles McKee b. abt 1811 in Ireland married Sarah “Sally” Flood b. abt 1820. They had Rebecca Ann b. abt 1844 in Ireland who married William Hammond b. abt 1831 in Ireland, William Mckee, b. abt 1847 and Matilda McKee b. abt 1850.

Hi Brenda, your names don’t ring a bell. However, I do have a Molly Gilmour who married a gentleman named Hill Hammond. I haven’t gone much further with that line. She is my 4th great uncles (Hendren) sister in law. The McKee’s are connected by marriage to my Berry family. They are predominantly from Co. Antrim & Co. Down. The McKee family originated in Sligo. If anything rings a bell please get back in touch. Thanks for contacting me.

Hi, I was looking through your branches and I have Mclaughlin’s who came from the Coleraine area of Londonderry. I also have Kennedy’s and McAllister’s from Ballycastle area

Hi Betty my McLaughlin’s are one of my brick walls. My 2nd great grandmother was Leah McLaughlin who married John Love. From burial records I know that Leah’s father was John (sometimes referred to as James) and her mother was Victoria. I’ve been hunting for years and still have found a marriage record for John McLaughlin and Victoria. At the time of Leah’s birth the family address was listed as: Limavady, Largoeah, Co. Londonderry. John McLaughlin was a tailor as per Leah’s Church Marriage record. My Kennedy line married into my Murdoch/k line – they are all from the Ballymoney, Co. Antrim area. If any of my names mean anything to you, please get back in touch. Thank you! 🙂

Hi Anita, would you happen to know Jane’s parents names or her siblings names? I have some Jane Gordon’s but have no way of knowing if one of them is your Jane. My connection with the Gordon’s is through my Scott family. Thanks for getting in touch. Colleen

I saw your link on Facebook (Antrim is one of the pages I follow). So I checked out your page & see that we share a number of family surnames.
The majority of my ancestors left Antrim in the early 1800’s, and settled in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, & points westward. So, looking at your families:
Berry: you list Carruthers (I have a Carrithers; close); Dunlop (I have Dunlap, same house); and McKee. My McKee’s married into the Walkinshaw’s. And my 3rd great uncle’s middle name was McKee (Robert McKee Glasgow).
Love: My 2nd great grandfather was James Love Glasgow. I initially presumed Love was to honor a local Presbyterian minister (Londonderry, Guernsey County, Ohio). But it crops up in my other families also as a middle name, so I wonder whether there is a deeper connection? I also have Gray’s (John Gray married Jane Glasgow in Colerain, before 1830, and later settled in Kentucky). And my 3rd great grandmother was Jane Neill, which makes me wonder about your Neil’s. According to her obituary, Jane was from Portglenone.
Murdoch: I see you have McDowell. I have McDowell’s who married into Moreland, Dunlap, & McAdam.
Scott: You have McKeown. Alexander McKeown married Rosanna Glasgow (my 4th great aunt) in Antrim about 1819.
We probably need to compare notes!

Hi Robert, sorry for the delay in response my website has been having “issues” and I haven’t been receiving my messages. I’m curious about many of the surnames you mention, especially the Love’s & McKee’s. Do you Love & McKee families connect? I’d love to discuss this further, can you email me at twistedlimbsandcrookedbranches@gmail.com? Thanks for getting in touch. Colleen
